Here is The List of Top 10 Most Visited Tourist Destinations In Australia
One of the most frequents questions is which places worth visiting in Australia. Well, we decide to make a list with description of each of these tourist destinations. Please remember that this is a selection of just 10 of places we like a lot and can recommend and not the most visited destinations in Australia. There are at leat 30 more places that should not be missed.
1.Sydney
The Opera House (photo) has a roof that really impresses everyone. It is like a huge and complex Mosaic, made with white ceramic tiles cemented onto the top of the structure. The history of the building is very interesting and long, full of controversy, nationalism, and intrigue. It took 14 years to finish and many times, construction was stopped and almost destroyed by opponents of the concept. Anyway, it became the biggest Australian symbol, after the kangaroo and it is famous worldwide. The architecture impresses from every angle you see it. From very near, from the top, from the other side of the bay, from the bridge, anywhere you go around Sydney Harbour, the Opera house can be seen, and it looks great. Night time with the lights on, the effects are awesome. You can walk around and stop in one of the many cafes and restaurants near it, or you can go for a guided (paid) tour inside to see the 4 theatres and its glamour. To the right of the Opera house, are the Botanical Gardens where you can observe beautiful flowers and plants, right beside the sea. It is free and a great place to spend an afternoon
SYDNEY Is the main entry point in Australia for most people, and the city offers many interesting sites to visit such as the Opera House, Darling Harbour with marine aquarium, lots of Shopping malls, museums, and it worth a visit to the other side of the bay including the Zoo and the beach of Mainly. Visiting the downtown tower (Sydney Tower) will have a complete view of the city from the top. The Blue Mountains will provide a beautiful panorama of the valley. The nightlife in Sydney is one of the most active in all Australia.

2.Cairns
Cairns (pictured above) is located a little above parallel 17ºS, on a flat plain between the sea and the mountains. Despite the ocean water being very clean, the bottom is muddy. Anyway, going North or South you will find the most beautiful beaches surrounded by palm trees, white sand and thick tropical forests. Cairns has an excellent tourist infra-structure with wonderful hotels, and they are crowded with people from all over the world. In Cairns you can choose to stay quiet and calm, or pump your adrenaline in many different tourist attractions. TheGreat Barrier Reef in front of Cairns, is the area where the reef is closer to the shore; therefore easier to visit. Also, the mountains surrounding Cairns have many impressive beautiful places, and tours to entertain all age
One of these great tours is by cable car that crosses from Cairns up to Kuranda in the mountains. The car goes flying high above the huge and dense tropical forest, crossing rivers and valleys where you can observe magnificent waterfalls. It is not cheap, but worth every cent. On the way there are 3 stations where you can stop off for a walk in the park, and than pick it up again at the next station. There is no extra cost to do so. Another option: instead of doing the round trip, go by cable car and come back by bus. We do consider this trip as a must do while in Cairns.
Another great trip in the same area, is the train that zigzags through the valleys and canyons of the region. It passes in front of many beautiful waterfalls and makes a few stops for you to take photos. The train leaves Kuranda just beside the cable car station and does a round trip circuit also with the option to return to Cairns by bus. One great idea is to go by cable car, take the train, and come back by bus. (the road is also beautiful). Kuranda is an Aborigine Village now totally devoted to tourism. There are many souvenirs and local arts and crafts shops, great cafes, restaurants and beautiful surroundings. For adrenalin junkies, there is a radical Bungy Jump, and for those who prefer something more heart calming, there is a Butterfly Enclosure where you will meet butterflies from all over the world. It is inside a netted dome where you can walk through.

Surfer's Paradise is the most central district of the Gold Coast. 4.Fraser Island
The Fraser Island is not a region, but only one island that is part of the Fraser Coast. The reason for including it on a separate page, due to the fact that one of the most remarkable places in Australia. The Island has approx. 120 km long by 15 km wide, and besides being World Heritage Site, has 1 / 3 of the total area as a national park, known as The Great Sandy National Park . The island is composed entirely of sand, is considered the largest sand island in the world, with dunes and forest formations that reach 180 meters above sea level. To bring the car to the island (4x4 only), or camping outside the camping, you need a permit, which can be purchased in Hervey Bay or on the island when they arrived. Anyway, if you're staying at a campsite, hostel or any other type of accommodation registered and licensed, you need not pay for hosting this permission. The island is a paradise for those who enjoy pristine nature, fishing, hiking, bird watching, white sandy beaches and warm water cristaliana, or simply do nothing.
To get to Fraser Island, there are many Ferry Boats called "Barges" carrying passengers and vehicles, and depart from Inskip Point at Rainbow Beach , crossing the Channel in 10 minutes. Note however, that there are not many places where a vehicle than with four-wheel drive can run because the ground is all sand, and easy to jam. However if you wish, you can rent a 4x4 vehicle in Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay for between A $ 80 and A $ 150 per day. Note that renting a car, worth more if you are in a group, otherwise it is cheaper to do tours in private vehicles that are a mixture of jeep and bus, and make the island's main routes. Another important note, is when driving in sand, go straight over the tire tracks left by other cars, so do not destroy the native vegetation, or run over small crustaceans and other marine animals that live buried in sand. When it rains the sand becomes hard to drive, and requires much skill even in some scans, which may be impossible to overcome.
The Fraser Island has approximately 200 freshwater lakes and cristaliana, which are filtered through the fine sand. Lake McKenzie (pictured) is the most famous, and better for swimming, with ultra white sand and warm waters. Because this lake is the most famous, no longer the most peaceful, as hundreds of tourists visit the next day McKenzie. If you want a secluded place, the ideal is to find another lake, through the hundreds of hiking trails well marked on the island. Not to lose, you are advised to purchase soon on his arrival at Fraser Island, where a detailed map of all trails are marked, as well as places of special interest, historical explanations, where one buys petrol, food, medicine, etc ...

5.Magnetic Island
Arriving on Magnetic Island is easy and fast, because the island is right in front of Townsville in a journey of less than 20 minutes by ferry. You can take the car to the island, in which case you have to take the "Barge" instead of the ferry. The departure terminal for cars is also in another part of town. Magnetic Island received its name when Captain Cook noted that the compass on board was suffering a detour to navigate around it. He believed that somehow the island was magnetic and had a mineral which caused the deviation. But I think in fact he was so impressed with the beauty of the island as we were, and his eyes as much as ours, magnetically always return to enjoy its contours.
Magnetic Island attracts thousands of young people from all parts of Australia and the world, mainly because the feeling of being an eternal summer camp, where it seems that everyone thinks only of having fun. All the attractions on the island from the Caravan Park, hiking up to see Koalas in the evening, involving a great deal of fun. The beaches are gorgeous, and the island is crisscrossed by trails where one can observe many parrots, possums, iguanas and other native animals. Any path you take, you'll always find some surprise observing animals and nature, and where the trail ends at a beach or city of dreams, including the National Park which covers two thirds of the island. 99.9% of the time, walking on foot. Another reason is the famous evening parties.Virtually every town of the island is a party, any day of the week. Geoff's Place (where we stayed) is a mixture of resort with camping and caravan Park, which is themed nights such as ... Hawaiian Night ... Those who join the party in costumes get a free beer (I used a surfboard and shorts outfit as typical of Hawaiian surfer). The accommodations are fairly cheap, and they exist in several places on the island.
The "Maggie" as the Australians call it, has only one road about 10 km of extension. If you're not on the verge of walking, you can rent a "Moke" jeep or small. Alternatively, there are scooters for rent. Most accommodations offer free mini-bus at pre set for ease of movement around the island. The landscapes and beaches descurtinam the roadside, are fabulous, and the road is very narrow, so that upon encountering a bus on a curve, the heart squeeze in the corner of the cliff, and his eyes almost refuse to stay open. The luck is that there are so few cars and buses that often one can even sit on the asphalt, which for a long time the only thing you'll hear are the jokes of birds and gulls.

6.Whitsundays
The Withsundays Coast lies between the cities of Mackay and the town of Bowen . The whole region is surrounded by dense forests on the continent that are home to national parks and wide variety of plants and animals, some protected as "Cassuary" (a big bird similar to an ostrich, which can reach 2 feet tall) . The biggest problem that goes to the Withsundays, is the lack of time to know everything. It would take more than a year only to discover all the islands in the bay at a rate of one island per day. Comparing roughly, would be like the bay of Ilha Grande and Angra dos Reis in Rio de Janeiro, multiplied by 20.
Hardy Reef is a segment of the Great Barrier Reef in front of Withsundays, and totally breaking waves, making the islands within it are always in sheltered waters. Why protect very well the boats in case of storms, the region has become the world capital of sailing, and anything else that floats. There you will find boats of almost all nationalities, shapes and sizes, in his travels for charter, or around the world. Nine out of 10 sailors famous, have made their homes Whitsundays for a long time, during the cyclone season, taking the time to do maintenance and repairs needed on the boat. It is very easy to visit the Great Barrier Reef from Airlie Beach on fast catamarans or seaplanes. If you prefer, you can rent your own sailboat to visit and even stay overnight in the Great Barrier Reef.
The whitsundays are very sophisticated, but not forgotten mortals who can not afford the luxury. There are several backpacker hostels around the Airlie Beach (photo) and surroundings, and also excellent Camping and Caravan Parks with excellent facilities at reasonable prices. For food, both with a lobster prices are pinching, even the good old Spaghetti Bolognese with the price of Mama. The city is compact and pleasant to walk around, and almost everything that exists in the local market is concentrated on both sides of Main Street. Hotels abound for every budget depending on location. If the high season, there may be some difficulty to find the cheapest lodgings. The ideal is to always book in advance. (Including Campsites and Hostels)

7. Ayers Rocks
Uluru or Ayers Rock , is about 3.5 km long and is considered the largest piece of loose rock on earth. The Rock has a very wide cultural significance to Aboriginal people who lived on site in several caves carved in stone.Today, Aborigines are the owners of this national park. To visit Uluru, one needs a long time, until many days, because the amount of trails and places to go is very large, taking literally the whole day to know everything. Note that during summer the temperature can easily reach 40 degrees, so you always have water and drink many liters is necessary to remove the danger of dehydration. If you climb Uluru, remember that it is extremely slippery, especially on days of rain, forming several small waterfalls and water holes for several holes. Several people have fallen rocks, with several fatalities. This caution applies to any rock in the region
8.Great Ocean Road
Great Ocean Road - one of the most beautiful places in Australia, is to about three hours' drive southwest of Melbourne, and is a road that borders the sea, where one can see cliffs that cut the coast forming arches and caves navies. 12 pillars that emerge from the sea like giant statues are known as the 12 apostles.Rating: unmissable.
About 3 hours driving from Melbourne, following the coast and mountains. The erosion caused by the sea and winds created giant monoliths of rock, called The 12 Apostles. (Now only 8 remains standing). Melbourne is an excellent urban city to visit, being the F! pilots the preferred city circuit. The international atmosphere and multiculturalism, nightlife, and the variety of excellent restaurants, makes Melbourne a must visit city in Australia.

Close to Darwin. One of the most beautiful National Parks in Australia with plenty of wild life and variety of native plants and Aboriginal paintings. The only negative point, is that it is so popular, that is difficult to walk alone in the park without finding other tourists.
10. Tasmania
Tasmania One of the prettiest places in Australia, and in certain way it reminds some New Zealand landscapes. Nice cities with excellent infra structure to visitors. The nature is the highlight, with spectacular beaches. The mountains and lagoons are well known for their beauty and wild life, and there are many historical places from the time Tasmania was a biggest prison for British convicts.
In 1642, Abel Janszoon Tasman sailing his Dutch ship in the South Pacific, when he was staring at a beautiful island that enchanted him. Instead of baptizing it in Tasmania or Abelman, decided to call it Van Diemen's Land . His boss, Governor of Batavia, he was very pleased that the Abelzinho named the island as the name of "His Excellency", but eventually abandoned the island to be very, very far indeed from the Netherlands.Over time, with the colonization of land by the English Crown Australis, Van Diemen's Land was incorporated into the cake, and became a maximum security prison for those who did not walk the line in England. For there were only sent the most dangerous murderers and thieves. Hobart was founded in 1803 (second oldest town in Australia), and a year later it was time to Launceston. In 1856, tired of twisting the language to talk Van Diemien, the name was changed to Tasmania in honor of its discoverer, and in 1901 was elevated to a state of Tasmania, or Tassie, as it is affectionately called by the Australians. Tasmania is one of the most beautiful places in Australia, offering tourists and international students, a huge variety of interesting things to do.
One of the characteristics of Tasmania, and that different from the other Australian states, is the splendor of your landscape. There are high mountains covered with snow in winter, lakes of crystal clear waters, spectacular cliffs and rocks along the coast, and beautiful beaches with coves. The city of Hobart (photo), is the capital and stands at the foot of the hills of Mt.Wellington , Mt Nelson , and the estuary of the River Derwent . The city has a modern lifestyle and vibrant with lots of fun for all ages. Restaurants, nightclubs, shopping centers and a world of facilities make this city of just under 200 000 inhabitants, one of the most safe and exciting places to visit or live. Only 20 minutes drive from Hobart, a piece of history that you can not miss is the village of Richmond , where the ruins of some of the prison complex at the time the inmates are semi-intactos.Outro breathtaking ride in Hobart, is up drive to the viewpoints of Mt.Wellington Nelson or Mt. The view from up there, covering the whole bay and the city is unforgettable.
